Ligament Injuries
Ligament injuries, such as ankle sprains, occur when a joint is twisted, overstretched as a result of a sudden force.
They can cause pain, swelling, bruising, stiffness and difficulty putting weight through the affected area.
Once a joint is sprained it is likely to be sprained again, this is because the positional receptors in your ligaments have moved and find it difficult to know where they are.
An osteopath manage the injury via the surrounding muscles and joints. Treatment may include gentle hands-on techniques, advice on activity and recovery, and exercises to gradually restore mobility, strength, balance, and confidence.
Future proofing your joint usually requires some work on your part with guided exercises to help retrain the surrounding tissues for strength and stability.
