Muscle Energy Technique (MET)
MET is a technique that practitioners employ to use the patient's nervous system in their favour. Using the body's natural mechanisms by activating a muscle for a period then relaxing it, the body stimulates the active muscle into post-isometric relaxation, and the opposing group into reciprocal inhibition. These relax the muscle fibres more than before allowing them to be stretched further, increasing muscle fibre length. Practitioners performing METs take advantage of this.

This can be helpful in chronically tight muscles, or joint capsules. METs can also be helpful in improving patient proprioceptive (joint position) sense improving neuromuscular control or a muscle or joint.
