NMT/Soft Tissue Massage
NMT uses soft tissue massage in a way to restore normal function to all types of soft tissue including muscle, ligament, tendon, and fascia. These include trigger point therapy, drainage techniques, cross fibre and longitudinal techniques.
This is used to relieve chronically or acutely tight musculature, tendinopathies, fascial adhesions, and can help improve certain types of inflammation. It can also help to release tight muscle impinging on nerves improving things such as sciatica.
NMT aims to increase blood flow, manually mobilise the soft tissue, and have the nervous system better communicate with soft tissues, helping with recovery.
NMT can be uncomfortable at the time, but usually patients describe this as a ‘good pain’ and generally feels helpful and relieving.
