HVT/Manipulation
HVTs use short, sharp thrusts to specific joints with the aim of getting them moving more normally. With an HVT you can hear a ‘pop’ or ‘crack’ this is called cavitation and is not necessary for a successful application of the technique. It is understood that this is air within the joint moving and making the sound.
The main aim of HVT is a mobilisational effect, but is also has an analgesic (painkilling) effect on the surrounding tissues and helps to relax off associated musculature, and the associated neurones reducing nociceptive (painful) feedback.
